Suspected fraud plot foiled at IOR

(Vatican Radio) An attempted fraud has been foiled in recent weeks by the Vatican Gendarmerie in collaboration with the Italian Guardia di Finanza.
Two men, one Dutch and one American, had attempted to break into Vatican territory with a briefcase containing fake bonds in hard currency, but were stopped by security at the Vatican controls at the entrance to Vatican City State.
The two men, allegedly wanted to go to the IOR, the Institute for Works of Religion, otherwise known as the Vatican Bank but were not holders of accounts or in any way known there. On the basis of existing agreements between the two countries, the suspects in the attempted fraud have been handed over to the Italian Guardia di Finanza.
