Salesians Elect Rector Major

March 25, 2014: The 27th General Chapter elected as new Rector Major and tenth Successor of Don Bosco Don Ángel Fernández Artime, provincial of Argentina South. The election took place at 10:20 am today (25 March 2014), on the first ballot. A long and warm applause greeted the official proclamation.

Don Ángel Fernández Artime, 53, was born August 21, 1960 in Luanco-Gozon, Asturias, Spain; made his first profession on September 3, 1978, perpetual vows June 17, 1984 in Santiago de Compostela and was ordained priest on July 4, 1987 in León.

A native of the Province of León, was Director of Youth Ministry, a member of the Council and the Provincial and Vicar, 2000-2006, and Provincial. He was a member of the technical committee which prepared the 26th General Chapter.

In 2009 he was appointed provincial of Argentina, a position he held until now, by virtue of its role has also had the opportunity to meet and collaborate personally with the then Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal.Jorge Mario Bergoglio, today Pope Francis. He holds a degree in Pastoral Theology and a Licentiate in Philosophy and Pedagogy.
