Online prayer initiative for Pope Francis’ May pilgrimage to Holy Land

(Vatican Radio) Christians around the world can now take part in an initiative to pray for Pope Francis’ upcoming pilgrimage to the Holy Land May 24-26. The journey, which the Pope says was decided to commemorate the historic meeting between Pope Paul VI and the Patriarch Athenagoras I fifty years ago, will have an ecumenical focus. Pope Francis will meet Patriarch Bartholomew I, the Eastern Orthodox Archbishop of Constantinople.

The Terra Sancta Pax website : http://www.terrasanctapax.org/, that launched the initiative, promotes the annual event “International Day for Intercession for Peace in the Holy Land”, which is held at the end of January each year. Organizers say people from more than 400 cities around the world participate in their annual days of prayer.

Terra Sancta Pax has composed a prayer booklet to accompany those who wish to pray for the success of Pope Francis’ Holy Land pilgrimage. It is available online in nine languages: Arabic, Hebrew, English, French, Italian, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese and German.

The prayer initiative for Pope Francis’ journey consists of three days of prayer in March, April and May, on the 24th, 25th and 26th of each month. The first day, the 24th, is a day of fasting, the second day, the 25th, is a day of adoration and the 26th is a day of unity (visiting a friend or someone in need).
