Pope institutes Pontifical Commission for Protection of Minors
Vatican City, 22 March 2014: Pope Francis has instituted on Saturday the Pontifical
Commission for the Protection of Minors, which was announced on 5 December 2013. According
to a Vatican communique, Pope has called eight person of eminence to be a part of
it. They are: Dr. Catherine Bonnet (France), Mrs. Marie Collins (Ireland), Prof. the
Baroness Sheila Hollins (UK), Card. Sean Patrick O’Malley, OFM Cap (U.S.), Prof. Claudio
Papale (Italy), Her Excellency Hanna Suchocka (Poland), Fr. Humberto Miguel Yañez,
SJ (Argentina), and Fr. Hans Zollner, SJ (Germany)
Their principal role will
be to prepare the Statutes of the Commission, which will define its tasks and competencies.
Other members will be added to the Commission in the future, chosen from various geographical
