Pope erects new Nigerian diocese, appoints its first bishop

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has erected the new Diocese of Pankshin, Nigeria, with territory taken from the Archdiocese of Jos and the Diocese of Shendam , making it a suffragan of the metropolitan see of Jos. The Pope has appointed Rev. Michael Gobal Gokum of the clergy of Jos and Director of the Pro- Cathedral of Our Lady Queen of Nigeria, in the Archdiocese of Abuja, to be the first Bishop of Pankshin.
