Vatican City, 18 February 2014: Pope Francis has applied to renew his passport as
a citizen of Argentina. Florencio Randazzo, the interior minister of the Argentine
government revealed on February 17 that the Pope contacted the country’s ambassador
to the Holy See, indicating that he wanted to renew the document. The Pope said
that he did not want to be given any special privileges, Randazzo said, and so he
went through the usual process of posing for a new photo and signing an application.
The new document will be delivered within a few days, Randazzo said.

Francis has a Vatican passport, and travels with the privileges accorded to a head
of state. But the fact that he wishes to retain his Argentine passport “makes us proud,”
Randazzo said. Source: CWN
