Pope tweets on Sacraments

Vatican City, 8 February 2014: In a post on the social media on Saturday, Pope Francis reflected on sacrament of confession and Eucharist saying they are privilege places for meeting Christ. The Pontiff wrote on his Twitter account @pontifex: “The Sacraments, especially Confession and the Eucharist, are privileged places of encountering Christ.”

Pope Francis has been giving catechesis on the sacraments during his weekly General audience on Wednesdays. He spoke on the Eucharist last Wednesday saying ‘As the source of the Church’s life, the Eucharist accompanies every step of our pilgrimage of faith, fellowship and witness. The Mass is a banquet which nourishes us not only with the bread of life received from the altar, where Christ’s sacrifice is offered, but also with the proclamation of God’s word in the Scriptures.’

The Pope has now close to 11 million followers on his Twitter account @Pontifex. And the re-tweeting of Pope’s message is reported to be reaching at least 60 million people. The Pope’s English-language handle alone has over 3 million followers. The papal tweets are published in nine languages on the micro-blogging website.
