Feb.04,2014: Pope Francis received the Head of the Independent State of Samoa, Tui
Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, in the Vatican on Monday. In the course of the cordial discussions
attention turned to some aspects of social and economic life of the country, as well
as on the much appreciated contribution of the Catholic Church in various sectors
of Samoan society, in particular within the field of human development. This
was followed by an exchange of views on the international situation, with particular
reference to regional cooperation and environmental issues affecting various countries
of the Pacific. Following his meeting with the Pope, Tamasese Efi met with Vatican
Secretary of State, Cardinal-Elect Pietro Parolin, and with the Vatican Secretary
