New head of Vatican's Financial Information Authority
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has named a new president of the Vatican’s Financial
Information Authority (IAF) and has accepted the resignation of its former head, 76
year old Cardinal Attilio Nicora. The new president is 66 year old Bishop Giorgio
Corbellini, titular bishop of Abula in Spain, who will keep his other positions as
head of the Holy See’s Labour Office and head of Disciplinary Commission of the Roman
Curia.
The Financial Information Authority was established by Pope Benedict
in 2010 to prevent money-laundering and it became operational in April 2011. The following
year, in May 2013, AIF director, Dr Rene Brulhart issued its first report, noting
the progress made by the Holy See towards becoming a “credible partner in the international
fight against money laundering”.
