Decrees of the Congregation for the causes of Saints
(Vatican Radio) Monday, January 27, 2014 , the Holy Father Francis received in private
audience His Eminence Cardinal Angelo Amato SDB, prefect of the Congregation for the
Causes of Saints. In the Audience the Holy Father authorized the Congregation to promulgate
the following decrees:
- The martyrdom of the Servant of God Peter Asúa Mendía
, diocesan priest , born in Valmaseda (Vizcaya , Spain ) August 30, 1890 and killed
in hatred of the faith in Liendo (Santander , Spain ) August 29, 1936 ;
- The
heroic virtues of the Servant of God Giuseppe Girelli , diocesan priest , born in
Dossobuono (Verona , Italy ) January 10, 1886 and died in Negrar ( Verona, Italy )
on May 1, 1978;
- The heroic virtues of the Servant of God Zechariah Santa
Teresa (nee Zachariah Salterain Vizcarra ) , professed priest of the Order of Discalced
Carmelites born in Abadiano (Vizcaya , Spain ) November 5, 1887 and died in Vellore
( Tamil Nadu, India) May 23, 1957 ;
- The heroic virtues of the Servant of
God Marcella Mallet , foundress of the Sisters of Charity of Quebec , was born in
Côte des -Neiges ( Montreal , Canada ) March 26, 1805 and died in Quebec (Canada)
April 9, 1871 ;
- The heroic virtues of the Servant of God Maria Benedetta
Arias , foundress of the Sisters Servants of Jesus in the Sacrament ; born in La Carlota
Rio Cuarto ( Córdova , Argentina ) April 3, 1822 and died in Buenos Aires (Argentina)
September 25, 1894 ;
- The heroic virtues of the Servant of God Margaret of
the Sacred Heart of Jesus (nee Virginia De Brincat ), founder of the Franciscan Sisters
of the Heart of Jesus , born in Kercem , Island of Gozo (Malta) November 28, 1862
and died Victoria , Island of Gozo (Malta) January 22, 1952 ;
- The heroic
virtues of the Servant of God Serafina (nee Noemy Five ) , professed religious of
the Congregation of the Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ, born in Urucuritiba
Urucurituba (Brazil) January 31, 1913 and died in Manaus ( Brazil) October 21 1988;

The heroic virtues of the Servant of God Elizabeth Sanna, widow Lay , professed religious
the Tertiary Order of Minims of St. Francis, of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate
founded by St. Vincent Pallotti was born in Codrongianos (Sassari , Italy ) 23 April
1788 and died in Rome February 17, 1857 .
