Pope Francis tweets against war

Vatican City, 18 January 2014: In a post on the social media on Saturday, Pope Francis reflected on war saying that they shatter so many lives. The Pontiff wrote on his Twitter account @pontifex: “Wars shatter so many lives. I think especially of children robbed of their childhood.”

Pope Francis has spoken against war a number of times since he was elected Pope in March last year. Pope Francis wrote ‏ on 3 September: With utmost firmness I condemn the use of chemical weapons. We want in our society, torn apart by divisions and conflict, that peace break out!. A day before that tweet, Pope Francis tweeted thus: War never again! Never again war!

The Pope has now close to 11 million followers on his Twitter account @Pontifex. And the re-tweeting of Pope’s message is reported to be reaching at least 60 million people. The Pope’s English-language handle alone has over 3 million followers. The papal tweets are published in nine languages on the micro-blogging website.
