Cardinal Koch recounts meeting with Patriarch Kirill
(Vatican Radio) The President of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, Cardinal
Kurt Koch, has returned from his five-day trip to Moscow, where he met with Russian-Orthodox
Patriarch Kirill.
The cardinal said he discussed with the patriarch the anniversary
of the landmark meeting between Pope Paul VI and the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople
Athenagoras, which will be marked next year.
The cardinal also shared Patriarch
Kirill’s impressions of Pope Francis. The patriarch noted the Pope’s closeness with
the people, his social doctrine, and he is very interested to see the Pope’s endeavors
toward greater synodality in the church.
The patriarch was also glad to hear
about the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the family, an issue dear to both churches.
