(Vatican Radio) The United Nations’ International Day for the Abolition of Slavery
is marked on December 2nd each year to remind people that modern slavery remains an
urgent contemporary form of human rights abuse. Here in Italy, a new organization,
‘Slaves No More’, was founded a year ago to help victims of human trafficking,
especially African women who end up in prostitution on the streets of Rome. The
organization is headed by Italian Consolata Sr Eugenia Bonetti and focuses especially
on helping women and girls who want to return home and start a new life there. Sr
