(Vatican Radio) Honduras' Supreme Electoral Tribunal is agreeing to review the results
of the country's Presidential Election. James Blears has the latest.
Runner
up Xiomara Castro, who's the candidate of the Libre Party, has registered an official
complaint. She's alledging widespread fraud in the November 24th Presidential Election.
Her husband Manuel Zelaya was ousted from the Presidency in 2009 by a military
coup. They led a huge but peaceful protest rally, which marched through the Capitol
Tegucigalpa on Sunday.
A week after the elections, when all the counting was
complete, ruling National Party Candidate Juan Orlando Hernandez emerged as the winner
by eight percentage points.
Tribunal President David Matamoras states that
Libre can be permitted to review the electoral record, but he's not agreed to a full
recount. Matamoras did however stress: " If there's doubt, and the possibility of
resolving that, we'll do it."
The process is already underway, in an atmosphere
of uncertainty, disagreement and finger pointing.
