Vatican Radio’s Polish section celebrates 75^th Anniversary

Rome, 28 Nov 2013: We must give thanks to God for the 75 years of the Polish Section of Vatican Radio. Today we remember with gratitude the time of the pontificate of John Paul II, during which we celebrated the 50^th anniversary of the Polish section. On that occasion the Holy Father said, "Gratitude is due to my predecessor Pope Pius XI for the initiative he has taken in 1938 that made the voice of the Holy See reaches our countrymen, and all others since then. Archbishop Zygmunt Zimowski, President of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers, made these comments during his Mass he celebrated to mark the 75^th anniversary of the Polish section of Vatican Radio on Wednesday.

Addressing the priests, sisters and lay persons at the Chapel of the Vatican Radio, Archbishop Zimowski said that in the Bible we read that the "jubilee" is a sacred thing, a time of thanksgiving. He further said of the Polish section of Vatican Radio Vatican: you have been involved in such a transition, supporting the Solidarity movement in different forms and other actions for the freedom of our country. The difficulties are inevitable, in a sense belong to the very essence of the transformations that have to be fulfilled.

The Year of Faith has been a year to promote the joyous rediscovery and renewed witness to the faith! and it is now closed. However, it has left a pulse that must permeate our entire lives today and in the years ahead. Think of the many contributions of Vatican Radio, in this holy season!

Citing the words of Pope Benedict XVI on the occasion of the 75^th anniversary of the founding of Vatican Radio, the Archbishop said: ‘it is a time to thank the Lord and at the same time pray to him to continue to assist you in your work… Yours is the ‘good fight of faith’, in the words of the Apostle Paul, to spread the Gospel of Christ." Archbishop Zimowski also thanked the work of the Polish section especially for the sick and the suffering.

The Archbishop concluded his exhortation invoking the blessings of God on all involved and the all the listeners of Vatican Radio Vatican. The Polish section of Vatican Radio celebrated its 75^th anniversary on November 24.
