November 25, 2013 - Pope Francis received in private audience in the Vatican president
Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara of Paraguay, who was accompanied by among others by his
two daughters and sister. The Paraguayan head of state later met Vatican Secretary
of State, Archbishop Pietro Parolin long with Vatican Secretary for Relations with
States, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti. During the friendly talks, the two sides
expressed satisfaction over good relations between them and touched upon issues of
common interest in the South American nation and the region, such as the fight against
poverty and corruption, the promotion of the integral development of the human person
and respect for human rights. The Holy See and Paraguay also acknowledged the contribution
of the Church to society.
