06 November, 2013 - The celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the Conference of Religious
India - CRI, began on Wednesday 6th November in Guwahati, North East India.
Some 500 Major Superiors from across the country are attending the event that concludes
on Saturday 9th Nov. It will be a large family gathering celebrating 50 golden
years of heroism, hope and humble service. During the 4-day event they will discuss
challenges to be faced. They will also reflect together on the meaning and priorities
of Religious life, the challenges it faces today, leadership and the role of women
in the church. CRI National president Fr.V.M. Thomas and CRI National Secy. Fr. Joe
Mannath, both Salesians, said the event will have a tremendous impact to bring
about a real change in the world of religious and will empower them to be enthusiastic
and daring to face challenges they meet. The event will conclude with a solemn
Eucharistic celebration presided over by Archbishop Salvatore Pennachio, Apostolic
Nuncio to India. CRI, officially instituted in 1963, has a membership of 822
Major Superiors belonging to 334 Congregations, representing 1,15,587 religious men
