October 25, 2013 - With a tweet on the social media, Pope Francis on Friday reminded
Christians of the danger of the culture of waste saying its spares neither goods nor
persons. “The “throw-away” culture produces many bitter fruits, from wasting food
to isolating many elderly people,” the Pope wrote on his Twitter account @Pontifiex.
The warning echoed his exhortation to the Pontifical Council for the Family, Friday,
where he said that a society that abandons children and marginalizes the elderly spells
out its own doom. In a separate tweet on its Twitter account (@terzaloggia) Vatican
Secretariat of State wrote: “The willingness of the world to move forward to eliminate
nuclear weapons has never been more evident.” The words were pronounced by Indian
Archbishop Francis Chullikatt, Apostolic Nuncio and Holy See’s Permanent Observer
to the United Nations in New York, when he addressed a General Assembly meeting on
disarmament on Tuesday. (Source: Vatican)
