Index estimates 30M slaves worldwide


(Vatican Radio) A new Global Slavery Index, launched in London Thursday, indicates that nearly 30 million people worldwide are currently living under modern slavery.
The Australia-based Walk Free Foundation compiled the index. India is listed as the country with the highest number of slaves at 14 million, and Mauritania with the highest percentage of slaves per total population at four per cent.
Nick Grono, CEO of the foundation, spoke with Laura Ieraci about how modern slavery is manifested and his foundation’s campaign’s goals.
