September 20, 2013 - Pope Francis has sent a message expressing condolences and spiritual
closeness to the victims of Hurricane Ingrid and Tropical Storm Manuel in Mexico.
The twin storms triggered floods and landslides across the nation and killed at least
97 people as of Thursday. Writing on behalf of the Pope, Vatican Secretary of State,
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone conveyed the Holy Father’s promises of “fervent prayers”
for the deceased and their grieving loved ones, as well as for all those affected
by the storms. Pope Francis encouraged sentiments and concrete acts of solidarity,
especially in rebuilding.
