Grady Martin was one of the most revered, creative and historically significant session
musicians in country and rockabilly music. During a nearly 50-year-long career, Martin
backed such names as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison.
The
Nashville Entertainment Association bestowed Grady Martin with its first Master Award
in 1983, and he was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall
of Fame. I found Martin today (Sept. 19) on a Booker T. Jones-produced, Willie Nelson
side from 1983. Please tune in to Melodies & Memories at 2:30 pm for that, if you
can!
