(Vatican Radio) Mexican authorities have arrested the alleged leader of the Juarez
drug cartel.
Listen to James Blears' report from Mexico City:
"Alberto Carillo
Fuentes was arrested in the hotel zone of Nayarit, Western Mexico. Mexican officials
say a finance paper trail led them straight to him. Five Mexican states cooperated
in this operation. He's accused of drug trafficking, organised crime, and murder.
He's been brought under heavy security to Mexico City for questioning by a special
police task force. In the 1980s his older brother Amado - nicknamed "Lord of the
Skies" because he crammed US-bound planes with cocaine - ran the business, but he
died in 1997 after botched plastic surgery. Police say Alberto took the family business
over from another brother, Vicente, who'd been suffering ill health. This is the third
arrest of a major drug cartel leader in less than three months."
