(Vatican Radio) Caritas Italiana has applauded the Ethiopian Catholic Church Social
and development Commission for the successful implementation of the Drought Recovery
and Rehabilitation Project.
The Ethiopian Catholic Church Social and Development
Commission is implementing the Drought Recovery and rehabilitation project also known
as Emergency Appeal 27/2012 in 8 dioceses. The project is designed to rehabilitate
and contribute to the improvement of the livelihood status of drought-affected households
in the targeted 19 districts through improving their resilience capacity to risk and
disasters.
Caritas Italiana, one of the major supporters of the project visited
some of the project sites and appreciated their capable implementation. Ms. Anna Arcuri,
from Caritas Italiana Africa desk, during her visit told Radio Vatican she witnessed
that the Church in Ethiopia is reaching out to the most vulnerable part of the society
through this project. She said is she very much satisfied with the local Church’s
implementation of the programs and assured Caritas Italiana’s continued support through
similar projects.
EA 27/2012 is composed of three specific objectives namely:
improvement of access to potable water and sanitation, improvement of agricultural
production and productivity, and income of the targeted households increased and livelihoods
options diversified in 8 Diocesan Catholic Secretariats.
