14 Aug. 2013: Pope Francis on Thursday 15 August - the Solemnity of the Assumption
of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will go to Castel Gandolfo to celebrate Mass in the
town’s main square and recite the Angelus prayer. Before Mass, the Pope will make
a private visit to the Monastery of cloistered Poor Clare Sisters in Castel Gandolfo.
This is the second visit of the Holy Father to the monastery, which he also privately
visited on July 14. The birth of the Monastery dates back to March 18, 1631. Most
popes usually spend the hot summer months at the Apostolic Palace in Castelgandolfo,
but Pope Francis who stayed on at the Vatican for the summer, will especially
go the Castelgandofo, some 30 kms from Rome to celebrate Mass on the feast of the
Assumption. Celebrated every year on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into
Heaven.. It is the most important of all Marian feasts and a Holy Day of Obligation.
