July 15, 2013: Pope Francis, on Sunday, reciting the Angelus from the Apostolic
Palace of Castel Gandolfo, also recalled St. Camillus de Lellis, since the Jubilee
Year for the fourth centenary of his death opened on Sunday. The Pope referred to
St. Camillus de Lellis, founder of the Servants of the Sick, the patron saint of the
sick and of health professionals, as a man who had fully lived the Gospel of the Good
Samaritan.
San Camillo died July 14, 1614, and so the fourth death centenary
will concludes in a year. Pope greeted with affection all the spiritual sons and daughters
of St. Camillus, who live his charism of charity with a daily contact with the sick.
“Be like him good Samaritans!” the Pope encouraged them as well as the doctors, nurses
and those who work in hospitals and nursing homes, with a hope that they too will
be animated by the same spirit. “We entrust this intention to the intercession of
Mary, Most Holy." He added.
