Venezuela's National Electoral Commission has confirmed the slim Presidential win
of Nicolas Maduro. Nicolas Maduro was inaugurated President on April 19th, five
days after the leadership Election. And with a 1.49 percent margin of victory... or
200,000 votes, it was a very close run thing. However, after more than a month long
audit, the country's Electoral Commission confirms his victory. 46 percent of the
votes were scrutinized during this period. While 54 percent had been re-examined just
after Election day.
Main Oppostion Leader Henrique Caprilles, who's again
a runner up, and this time by a political whisker, orginally agreed to the terms of
the Audit. But then he decried and denied the process as a fake, for an election which
he insists was rigged. He's vowing to take his appeal onwards and upwards, to Venezuela's
Supreme Court, and even to international courts. Up to now Washington hasn't offically
recognized the Venezuelan Presidential Election result. The US Administration's next
move is awaited with great expection. Listen to this report by James Blears
