Tens of thousands gear up for IF campaign

(Vatican Radio) On Saturday 8th June tens of thousands of people from across the UK, will be taking part in the Enough Food for Everyone IF campaign. The campaign is calling on G8 leaders, who will be meeting in Northern Ireland later in the month, to tackle the issue of global hunger.
Events will begin in London on Saturday with an Ecumenical church service at Westminster Central Hall with an address by the Archbishop of Westminster, Vincent Nichols.
Then later in the afternoon thousands of people will rally in Hyde Park to call for action on hunger.
The UK based Catholic Development Agency Progressio is one of the 170 organisations involved in the campaign.
Speaking to Lydia O’Kane, Progressio Chief Executive Mark Lister said that faith was fundamental in the drive to make hunger a thing of the past.
“…We’re inspired by Catholic Social Teaching and that call…for us to give priority to those with least wealth and least power.”
He also said the response to the campaign has been enormous with people from all walks of life getting involved. Listen to Lydia O’Kane’s interview with Mark Lister RealAudioMP3
