10 May, 20113 - Pope Francis has expressed his sorrow for the serious accident in
Italy in which he cargo ship, Jolly Nero rammed into the Port of Genoa, causing the
death of at least seven people. The 40,000-ton container ship crashed into the dock
at Genoa’s busy port on Tuesday night and toppled the control tower into the harbour.
In a telegram sent by Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Pope
Francis expressed his heartfelt closeness with the city of Genoa, and assured his
fervent prayers for those who were tragically killed in the accident. He also prayed
for the quick recovery of those injured, and entrusted all those affected by the mishap
to the protection of Virgin Mary.
