(May 08, 2013) On hearing of the deaths of at least 22 people, including ten
children, and more than 30 injured by the explosion of a gas tanker, on a highway
north of Mexico City on Tuesday, Pope Francis sent a condolence message expressing
his grief and prayers. The condolence message was sent in the Pope’s name on Wednesday
by Vatican Secretary of State - Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. The message addressed
to Bishop Oscar Roberto Dominguez of Ecatepec said - “ The Pope was saddened on
hearing of the grave accident which has caused many victims, serious injuries to
many more and caused considerable damage.” The Holy Father has expressed his spiritual
closeness to all affected by this tragedy and offered prayers to Our Lady of Guadalupe
