Pope says church is a love story not a bureaucratic organisation

(April 24, 2013) The Church is not a bureaucratic organization, but a love story. This was Pope Francis’ message during Wednesday’s Mass in the Chapel of St. Martha’s Residence in Vatican City. Attending the Mass were employees of the Institute for the Works of Religion - IOR, commonly called the Vatican bank.
Commenting on the day’s reading referring to the growth of the first Christian community, the Pope’s homily warned against being tempted to make pacts simply to get more partners. The Church does not increase through military might, said Pope Francis, but through the power of the Holy Spirit. He stressed that the Church is not an organisation; She is a Mother. Noting the presence at Mass of many mothers , Pope Francis said if you ask any one of them, if she is a domestic administrator, she will answer” No, I am a Mother.” Pope Francis stressed that the Church is also a mother. He said we are in the midst of a love story that continues with the power of the Holy Spirit and all of us together are a family in the Church, which is our Mother.”
