TEDx International conference on freedom of religion Today
Does religion still matter in contemporary society? Are freedom and religion opposites?
What gives real meaning to life? These are some of the questions the International
conference on freedom of religion attempt to answer. The event will be inaugurated
on Friday in Rome by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council
for Culture, a press release revealed.
This Vatican sponsored TEDx conference
will see an unusual mix of people - 18 speakers, from artists and NBA basketball players
to a pop singer. They will be examining the impact of religious freedom in their own
lives and from a global perspective at the TEDx Conference. Cardinal Ravasi will open
the event with the theme Freedom of Religion Today.
TED.com is a global non-profit
organization devoted to “ideas worth spreading.” At TED’s annual conferences the world’s
leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes.
The talks are filmed and uploaded onto the web for everyone to watch. Ted speakers
in the past have included the likes of Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Gordon Brown, Isabel
Allende and Bono.
Already a global phenomenon lauded for its commitment to
“ideas worth spreading,” TED.com’s online talks are gaining attention in Italy and
other European countries through similarly locally organized “TEDx” events. Source:
