05 April, 2013 - Pope Francis will rename the square in front of Vicariate of St.
John Lateran in Rome, as ''Largo Beato Giovanni Paolo II'' or “Blessed John Paul II
Square,” from its present name, St. John Lateran Square. Pope Francis will rename
the square in a ceremony Sunday evening, before his own installation as Bishop of
Rome. In the presence of the Vicar of Rome, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, the Mayor
of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, and others, Pope Francis will unveil a plaque with the new
name. As the spiritual leader of the worldwide Catholic Church, the Pope is also
the Bishop of Rome in the footsteps of St. Peter the Apostle, the first Pope and Bishop
of Rome. The Basilica of St. John Lateran is the cathedral of the Bishop of Rome.
