Pope says only Jesus saves, not sorcerers and fortune tellers
05 April, 2013 - Many resort to sorcerers or fortune tellers to solve their problems,
but it is only Jesus who saves, said Pope Francis on Friday. The Holy Father made
the observation in a homily at a morning Mass in the chapel of his residence at Domus
Sanctae Marthae, which was attended by members of the Vatican Pharmacy and some attendants
of the papal household. Pope Francis illustrated his message with an anecdote of
a humble man who for 30 years had been working in the Curia of Buenos Aires, Argentina,
Pope Francis’ former Archdiocese. Before going out to work, the father of 8 children
always said “Jesus.” Pope Francis as Cardinal Jorge Bergolio once asked him why he
always called on Jesus. He answered, “When I say Jesus, I feel strong, I feel ready
to work and I know He is by my side, protecting me.” The Pope noted this humble man,
who did not study theology, had only the grace of Baptism and the strength of the
Holy Spirit. “He did me a lot of good too, because it reminds us that in this world
that offers us so many saviors, it is only the name of Jesus that saves.” Pope Francis
concluded: “In order to solve their problems many people resort to fortune tellers
and tarot cards. But only Jesus saves and we must bear witness to this! He is the
only one."(Source: Adnkronos)
