Two tweets from Vatican mark UN Human Rights session

March 08, 2013 - While the Pope’s twitter account has gone into ‘hibernation’ since the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI on Feb. 28 evening, the Vatican’s Secretariat of State is tweeting messages under the handle @Terzaloggia. On Friday, as the College of Cardinals gathered in the 7th general congregation, Vatican Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, took to social media with the tweet: “The Holy See, in its diplomatic activity, is committed to the protection of the rights of the most vulnerable”. Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, the Holy See’s representative to the United Nations in Geneva also tweeted : “Respect for the religious freedom of minorities is the cornerstone of dialogue and cooperation”. Both the tweets addressed issues being dealt with in the 22nd session of the Human Rights Council, currently taking place in Geneva from Feb. 25 to March 22.
