"No untouchables" in Mexican campaign against corruption
(Vatican Radio) Mexico's new Presdient is warning that there are no untouchables in
his nationwide crusade against corruption and graft
At a Conference of the
Institutional Revolutionary Party PRI, Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto starkly
stressed: "There are no untouchable interests. The only one that will be protected
is the national interest. We're open to scrutiny."
These latest words have
caught up with actions. The veteran Leader of the Teachers' Union Elba Esther Gordillo,
has been arrested and charged with embezzling the equivalent of 200 million dollars
of funds. She denies the charges and has not be granted bail. The Teachers' Union
with its 1.5 million members, is the largest of its kind throughout Latin America.
With these decesive actions, President Peña Nieto is cleaning house. He's
also radically underlying exactly who's in charge of Mexico.
