Pope meets cardinals’ commission investigating ‘Vatileaks’
February 25, 2013 - Pope Benedict XVI who is stepping down on Thursday evening,
on Monday received the Commission of three cardinals who were appointed by him to
investigate into the stealing and leaking of confidential papal documents to the
media in what has come to be known as “Vatileaks”. A statement by the Holy See
Press Office said the Pope received in audience Cardinals Julián Herranz, Jozef Tomko
and Salvatore De Giorgi, accompanied by the Commission Secretary, Capuchin priest,
Fr. Luigi Martignani. The Holy Father thanked them for their fruitful work, which,
he said, revealed the generosity, honesty and dedication of those who work at the
Holy See in the service of the mission entrusted by Christ to the Roman Pontiff.
“The Holy Father has decided that the findings of this investigation, the contents
of which are known only to Himself, will be made available exclusively to the new
Pontiff,” the Vatican statement added.
