February 16, 2013: The Vatican on Saturday renewed for five years the Commission of
Cardinals for the supervision of its bank, which is officially known as the Institute
for Works of Religion (IOR). A Communiqué of the Press Office of the Holy See stated
that the new Supervisory Committee of the IOR is composed of Cardinals Tarcisio Bertone,
Secretary of State (President), Jean-Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council
for Interreligious Dialogue; Odilo P. Scherer, Archbishop of São Paulo - Brazil; Telesphore
P. Toppo, Archbishop of Ranchi – India, and Domenico Calcagno, President of APSA.
The
renewal of the Supervisory Committee of IOR comes shortly after the Vatican has appointed
on Friday German lawyer Ernst von Freyberg to be its new president.
