UN peacekeeping force could be sent to Mali


The United Nations Security Council has begun discussions on sending a UN peacekeeping force to the West African country of Mali. This comes as French intervention against Islamists in the north of Mali six weeks ago seems, so far, to have been a success.
The UN force will only be sent in when the security situation improves and will consist largely of African forces already serving or pledged to intervene in Mali.
