Syria: new massacre revealed, Turkey increases defences
(Vatican Radio/agencies) In the latest violence in Syria, activists say the bodies
of between 65 and 80 men, some of them with their hands tied behind their back, have
been found on a river bank in the northern city of Aleppo.
The Syrian Observatory
for Human Rights says it's not clear who was behind the execution-style killings,
when they occurred or who the dead are.
Turkey increases air defence
Security
officials say a second pair of Patriot missile batteries being sent by NATO countries
to defend Turkey against possible attack from Syria are now operational.
The
United States, Germany and the Netherlands each committed to sending two batteries
and up to 400 soldiers to Turkey after Ankara asked for help to bolster its air defences
against possible missile attack from Syria.
U.S. boosts humanitarian aid
to Syria
President Barack Obama says the United States would boost humanitarian
aid to Syria and has urged other nations to do more to help the United Nations,
which is struggling to assist some 4 million people in the war-torn country and
more than 700,000 who have fled it.
In a youtube video to the Syrian people
he said he authorized an additional $155 million in aid for food, medical care and
clothing for Syrians and refugees.
