(Vatican Radio) Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to gather in Washington,
DC on Friday, January 25th for the March for Life, an annual event where
pro-life advocates from all over the United States come together on behalf of unborn
children who are in danger of abortion.
This year’s March for Life coincides
with the 40th anniversary of Roe vs Wade, the Supreme Court decision that led to the
legalization of abortion in the country.
Janet Morana is co-founder of the
Silent No More Awareness Campaign, a movement dedicated to helping post-abortive mothers
to speak out against abortion. She is also the executive director of Priests for
Life, the co-host of EWTN’s “The Catholic View for Women and Defending Life,” and
the author of the recently-published book entitled Recall Abortion.
Speaking
on this 40th anniversary of Roe vs Wade, and where the country stands on the issue
of abortion, Morana told Vatican Radio that “over these four decades, one thing that
has helped us is that science has been on our side. Back when abortion was made legal,
ultrasounds had not been invented yet… Now, ultrasound is used throughout all pregnancies,
during the pregnancy, several months at a time they get ultrasounds.”
“Ultrasound
has really helped take away the lies of abortion clinics when they say [the unborn
child] is just a clump of cells,” she said.
The pro-life movement has also
been advanced, Morana said, by post-abortive women -- as well as fathers of aborted
children -- who have come forward to speak out against abortion. “They have gone through
healing, and now they are talking publically about the damage that was done to them
physically, psychologically, and emotionally through abortion.”
“We can talk
about all the rhetoric we want, but their experience trumps all the political rhetoric.”
