Mexico: French citizen freed after seven years in prison
(Vatican Radio) French national Florence Cassez is on her way home to Dunkirk, after
being freed, seven years into a 60 year jail term for kidnappings, which she denied.
James Blears reports on a lingering case which divided two nations. The Judges voted
3-2 to throw out the case, which was littered with legal and human rights violations,
the worst of which involved Mexican Police re-staging the arrest of Florence Cassez,
and it being filmed by televison company Televisa. Her Mexican Lawyer Agustin Acosta
says this decison opens up a fresh new chapter for Mexican justice. "I think it's
a bright day for Mexican justice," Acosta said. The case has severely stained relations
between Mexico and France. Listen to this report from James Blears in Mexico:
