Fr. Paolo Molinari, SJ on St. Kateri Tekakwitha Welcome to our special program
on the Year of Faith, THE FAITHFUL WITNESS, a series on the lives of Inspiring People
and Witnesses of faith in the Catholic Church from around the world. These holy people
lived their ordinary lives in extraordinary ways. They are examples of great holiness
and virtue, and they invite us to follow their paths to holiness. Their unique stories
inspire us to be rooted in our faith. God calls each one of us today to inspire our
brothers and sisters and to be witnesses of our faith. Listen : During the
last two weeks we listened to Jesuit Father Paolo Molinari about the Faithful
witness of a young Native American maiden called Kateri Tekakwitha. She is one of
the seven persons canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on 21st October 2012 in
St. Peter’s square in the Vatican. She is the first Native American woman to be venerated
in the Roman Catholic Church. Her life and works help us to look at our lives from
God’s perspective especially now when we are celebrating the Year of Faith. Today
in this concluding part of his interview, Father Molinari explains the final
stage to her canonization and its significance in this year of faith. Father Molinari
has been the Postulator for the canonization of Tekakwitha, working about half a century
for this cause. Father Moliari’s experiences are truly inspirational. Q. Hello
Father, you have been telling us about the finding of evidences of Kateri’s sanctity
in the historical documents. After that what happened? Q. So. The doctors verified
and confirmed their inability to explain the cure in medical terms, and that theologians
also confirmed that this is how they see it. And then what happened? Q. And so
she was canonized. Now that we are in the year of faith and that her canonization
has taken place just about two months ago. Moreover, she is the first native Indian
canonized… how does her charity, her love for God, her love for neighbor, inspire
us today? That was Jesuit Father Paulo Molinari, postulator for the cause of the
canonization of Kateri Tekakwitha speaking about her canonization and its significance
in this year of faith.By P.J. Joseph SJ FRIDAY, 04 JANUARY 2013
