Pope appoints bishop to Udaipur Diocese


December 21, 2012 - Pope Benedict XVI on Friday appointed a bishop to the Indian Diocese of Udaipur, in Rajasthan state. The Pope transferred Divine Word Bishop Devprasad Ganawa of Jhabua, in Madhya Pradesh state, to Udaipur after Bishop Joseph Pathalil of Udaipur stepped down on reaching the retirement age of 75 in January. At the same time Bishop Ganawa will continue to be the Apostolic Administrator of Jhabua until a new bishop is appointed. Born in 1951, Bishop Ganawa became a member of the Society of the Divine Word in 1981 and was ordained to the priesthood the following year. He was appointed bishop of Jhabua in 2009. His new Diocese of Udaipur is a suffragan of Agra.
