(Vatican Radio) Mexico's new President is outlining an integrated security plan, designed
to diminish and curb the country's ravaging ongoing Drug War.
President Enrique
Peña Nieto is stressing that a proactive rather than a reactive approach to crime
is needed and overdue. He's announced that fifteen Federal Police Units will specifically
focus as task forces, in combating homicide, kidnapping and extortion. While a new
military type of Police Force, will bridge the gap between the Armed Forces and their
civilian law and order counterparts. At the self same time, substantial funds and
resources will be channelled into job creation for the young. No Mexican Government
has yet fulfilled the pledge, to create a million jobs for school leavers annually.
For any of this to have a realistic chance of succeeding, corruption must
be dealt with like a dose of salts, because it sickens many ordinary Mexicans.
More
than 60,000 Mexicans have already died in the Drug War, which up to now, shows no
signs of lulling, let alone ending.
