Syria: US warns regime against use of chemical weapons
(Vatican Radio) Intelligence sources in the US government are saying they have evidence
Syrian government engineers have mixed the precursor chemicals to make Sarin gas.
The gas could be delivered against targets – including civilian populations – by airplane.
US President Barack Obama warned the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against
using chemical weapons, saying there will be consequences if it does. “The world is
watching,” said Obama, adding, “the use of chemical weapons is and would be totally
unacceptable." He went on to say, “If you make the tragic mistake of using these weapons
there will be consequences and you will be held accountable.” Obama made his remarks
Monday during the course of an event at the National Defense University in the US
capital, Washington, DC. Meanwhile, NATO countries are preparing to approve a request
from Turkey for Patriot missile systems to be installed in order to bolster the country’s
defences against cross-border attacks from Syria. Listen:
