Pope greets Albania on its centenary of independence
November 29, 2012: Albania celebrated its centenary of independence on Wednesday.
Pope Benedict XVI greeted the President of the Republic of Albania, Bujar Nishani,
and the People of the republic on the occasion. In a message addressed to the President
the Pope conveyed ‘his assurance of prayers as he and his Government strive to strengthen
peace, justice and prosperity for the nation’. The Pontiff also sent Zef Gashi, Archbishop
of Bar, as Representative of the Holy See, for the celebration. Pope Benedict concluded
his message repeating his congratulations, and invoking divine blessings on the President
and the people of Albania.
