(Vatican Radio) Two car bombs exploded today in the Syrian capital Damascus killingat
least 34 people. The twin car bombs ripped through the Damascus suburb of Jaramana
early on Wednesday morning leaving devastation in their wake.
The blasts shattered
windows in nearby buildings, littering the street with glass and debris.
According
to hospital officials dozens were killed and many more were injured. The area that
was targeted is home to many Christians and the Druze community an offspring of Shi'ite
Islam
Witnesses said people rushed to help the injured after the first explosion,
and then the second bomb went off.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility
for Wednesday's bombings but the bloodshed in Damascus came as Syria's new opposition
coalition held its first full meeting in Cairo to discuss forming a transitional
