November 27, 2012: For the first time, a north east Indian state would host the Asia
Pacific Youth Conference (APYC) next month. The conference would be held at Sech Zubza
near Kohima in Nagaland from Dec. 7-13.
The event on the theme “A generation
with responsibility” would be attended by delegates from 18 countries, sources said.
Over 80 delegates from Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, South Korea, Japan,
Australia, Taiwan, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Bhutan and
India will attend the conference.
One lone member from Finland will also take
part in the event, while delegates from Canada and United Kingdom will be in the meeting
as support partners. From Nagaland, participants from 10 tribes have registered for
the conference, the sources added. Peno Hiekha, coordinator of the organising committee,
said APYH will focus on empowering individuals to be change-makers on the foundation
of honesty, trust and integrity.
“It will be a platform for youth from different
parts of the Asia-Pacific region to come and learn from each other through listening
and interaction resulting in new initiatives for a better tomorrow,” she said. It
will be an opportunity for both foreign and local delegates to draw the best from
each other, she added. The meet is christened APY-Hoho (APYH) for the Nagaland
edition. Hiekha expressed hope that the event would inspire “our people toward
a new beginning. May be this is going to be the beginning of a change in Nagaland
and even neighboring states.”
