(Vatican Radio) The trial of Claudio Sciarpellletti began Monday at the Vatican. A
computer technician in the employ of the Vatican’s Secretariat of State, Sciarpelletti
stands accused of aiding and abetting in connection with the theft of confidential
documents. The Pope’s former butler, Paolo Gabriele has already been tried and found
guilty of stealing the documents. Monday’s hearing was dedicated to technical questions.
Testimony – including that of the accused and other witnesses for the defence – will
begin to be heard at the next hearing, scheduled for this coming Saturday, November
10th.
