(Vatican Radio) Bishops from around the globe head back to their home diocese after
three week’s work at the Synod on new evangelisation, which officially concluded with
the Papal Mass on Sunday. But what will they be taking back home from this experience
of sharing concerns with Church leaders from so many other countries? How will the
work of the Synod shape their pastoral planning? And how much do they feel the final
message and list of propositions reflect the richness of the universal Church? Vatican
Radio’s Philippa Hitchen spoke to Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin on the final
day of the Synod to find some answers to those questions…..
Listen:
They (the
propositions) bring together various threads and trends that were discussed throughout
the Synod.....it's very difficult to do that when the members of the Synod come from
so many parts of the world - in one of the small groups there were 22 nations represented.....
How
do you talk about the transcendent in a language which tries to reference everything
in what is actually taking place…....how do you speak about fidelity, not only in
marriage but also in our relationship with God?
